Finally, Common Sense in our Leaders

I realize this post goes againt the "Mission Statement" of this blog (..pointing out absurdities..) but I can't help but advertise when Congress finally shows signs of sensibility.

House Passes Bill to Slash Funds to U.N.
By JIM ABRAMS, Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON - Culminating years of frustration with the performance and behavior of the
United Nations', the House voted Friday to slash U.S. contributions to the world body if it does not substantially change the way it operates...

"We have had enough waivers, enough resolutions, enough statements," said House International Relations Committee Chairman Henry Hyde, R-Ill., the author of the legislation. "It's time we had some teeth in reform."

The legislation would withhold half of U.S. dues to the U.N.'s general budget if the organization did not meet a list of demands for change. Failure to comply would also result in U.S. refusal to support expanded and new peacekeeping missions. The bill's prospects in the Senate are uncertain..." read it all here

One reason why we should stop giving money to the U.N.

Durbin is an idiot

Think Senators Durbin, Leahy and Kennedy's comments are even close to the truth? See what the Nazis did. What Stalin did. Or what Pol Pot did.

Not only that, see what the terrorists (a.k.a.- insurgents) in Iraq have done to captive Americans, links are found on Savage.com in the "Know Your Enemy" section. WARNING very graphic.

Is Durbin really the best Illinois has to offer? Way Too Many years of Kennedy and Leahy have confirmed that they are (to everyone's astonishment) the best their states have to offer.

Just Pop a Cap in Them

Dozens of incidents in which police officers have used electric stun guns to subdue unruly students have led school officials around the USA to restrict the use of the devices on campus. In Florida, North Carolina and other states, the use of Tasers to stop fights and other threatening behavior is being restricted. Maybe they should used a Billy Club?

What makes this story rate space on my blog is the failure of people to see that corporal punishment (i.e.- paddling) kept this kind of physical restraint from being necessary in the past.

Any 140+ Year Olds Out There?

The people of Chicago should be the laughing stock of the country, if not the world. Their elected official shave put in place an ordinance requiring companies to research their company's history and disclose whether they profited from slavery. Unless there is someone over 140 years old, no one alive today needs to know this. Does the City Leadership require Mitsubishi (maker of the WW2 Zeros) to apologize for bombing Pearl Harbor and dragging us into war? Do they demand apologies for all of the Jews killed in the Holocaust from Volkswagen (maker of several Nazi vehicles)? How about Wal-Mart, Target and other retailers who get merchandise from China? That will not happen because the groups affected by that PAST HISTORY do not have poverty pimps out there stirring up hatred...plus those affected groups have way too much pride to let something so stupid happen.

Wachovia Corporation has apologized for its ties to slavery after disclosing that two of its historical predecessors owned slaves and accepted them as payment.

Fla. Child-Rape Suspect in U.S. Illegally

If the headline of this article is not enough to turn your stomach, this surely will do the trick.

"Cunningham, 17, had three burglary arrests last year but escaped the notice of immigration authorities because his cases were handled in the juvenile justice system, said Art Bullock, Border Patrol chief in West Palm Beach.
"If he had been booked into the main jail, he would have been checked," Bullock said."

This guy could be accepted under the president's amnesty proposal...BUT, a little extra police work would have kept this girl from being raped and almost killed.

Now Why IS It Legal?

The Gender Gap - Abortion
A majority of women, 54%, say abortion is morally wrong, while roughly a third (35%) say it is morally acceptable. Men are more evenly divided in their views of abortion, with 47% saying it is wrong and 45% saying it is acceptable. [The Gallup Poll May 2-5, 2005]

Finally, some sanity is creeping into society...or at least it is being reported truthfully!

Sex Offenders Getting Medicare Funded Viagra

N.Y. Audit: Sex Offenders Getting Viagra By MICHAEL VIRTANEN, Associated Press Writer

Scores of convicted rapists and other high-risk sex offenders in New York have been getting Viagra paid by Medicaid for the last five years, the state's comptroller said Sunday.

Audits by Comptroller Alan Hevesi's office showed that between January 2000 and March 2005, 198 sex offenders in New York received Medicaid-reimbursed Viagra after their convictions. Those included crimes against children as young as 2 years old, he said.

According to the rest of the story, steps are being taken to keep this from happening again, but one must still ask, WHAT WERE THEY THINKING !!
